This was our oasis at the bottom of Colca Canyon.  After a long hot day of taking a steep hike down some of the deepest canyons we arrived to the hot springs and small hostel of Lluar.  Seated on a cliff right by the rushing river with Celia Cruz playing in the kitchen.

I thought the walk from El Carmen to San Jose was 20 minutes, it turned out to be more like an hour and a half.   Found a perfect Pall Mall along the way and when I finally arrived I got a pitcher of Chicha Morado for about 25 cents then took a tour of the historic San Jose Hacienda.

This was my last and turned out to be my best morning in Peru.

I forgot this sweet lady’s name who let me rent this room for about $2.  It was 6am and she was cooking her granddaughter breakfast before school.  I had lost all my earplugs at this point.

El Carmen, is a small district settled in the outskirts of Chinchero.  This is where the Afro-Peruvian music plays.

I took a walk in the early morning light to snap some photos on my last day in Peru before I hopped on a bus to Lima.  I came to a home and as I was shooting the man opened the door and invited me in to listen to some music.  His name was Guillermo Marcos Santa Cruz.  He asked me what I was doing in El Carmen as I was the only tourist in town, I said I came for the music. Guillermo performed with his violin and as his 4 year old granddaughter woke up, she gave me a hug and started dancing as her dad accompanied her on the cajon.  I had a private show all before 8am.  It was magical.

Peru Part 1

These moments.  These tiny, simple, perfect moments.  All 1000 images is what I narrowed down.  I might take this post down and post fewer selects but these moments~ were so divine.
